Died: May 16, 1955, St. Leonards, Herefordshire, England.

Son of Anglican cleric H. G. Alington of Candlesby, Lincolnshire, Cyril attended Marlborough School and Trinity College, Oxford (BA 1893, MA 1895, DD 1917). He became an Anglican deacon in 1899, and priest in 1901. He was a Fellow of All Souls (1896); assistant master at Marlborough College (1896-9) and Eton College (1899-1908); head master at Shrewsbury School (1908-16) and Eton College (1917-33); and Dean of Durham (1933-1951) . He published a number of hymns, essays, and books.
