Died: February 20, 1946, Ox­ford, Ox­fordshire, Eng­land, of in­jur­ies sus­tained when hit by a mo­tor­cy­cle.

A well known mu­sic ed­u­cat­or, All­en was an or­gan schol­ar at Christ Coll­ege, Cam­bridge Un­i­ver­si­ty, and served as or­gan­ist at St. Asaph’s and Ely Ca­thed­ral (1898-1901) and New Coll­ege, Ox­ford Un­i­ver­si­ty (1901-18). He be­came con­duct­or of the Lon­don Bach Choir in 1907, helped di­rect the Leeds Fes­ti­val in 1913, be­came di­rect­or of the Roy­al Col­lege of Mu­sic in 1918, and was knight­ed in 1920.
