ämilie was the daughter of Count Albert Friedrich of Barby and Mühlingen (on the Elbe, near its junction with the Saale), and cousin to hymnist Ludämilia Elisabeth. She was born in the castle of her great-uncle, Count Ludwig Günther, where her family had taken refuge during the Thirty Years’ War. After her father died in 1641, and her mother the year after, she was adopted by her aunt. She grew up at Rudolstadt, and married her cousin, Albert Anton, in 1665. She studied under Ahasuerus Fritsch and others, and eventually wrote some 600 hymns. Her works include:
