Angell earned Ba­che­lor and Mas­ter of Mu­sic de­grees in pi­a­no and com­po­si­tion from from Syr­a­cuse Un­i­ver­si­ty, New York, and a Doc­tor of Ed­u­ca­tion degree from Co­lum­bia Un­i­ver­si­ty Teach­ers Coll­ege (1944). He taught pi­a­no and the­o­ry at Mur­ray State Teach­ers Col­lege, Ken­tucky, and head­ed the pi­a­no de­part­ment there (1934-6). In 1936, then be­came Dean of the Coll­ege of Fine Arts at Ok­la­ho­ma Bap­tist Un­i­ver­si­ty; the coll­ege was re­named the “War­ren M. An­gell Coll­ege of Fine Arts” in 1956. He found­ed the Bis­on Glee Club in 1938, and sang with Fred War­ing’s Penn­syl­van­i­ans and the Ro­bert Shaw Chor­ale. He al­so served on the com­mit­tee for the 1956 Amer­i­can Bap­tist Hymn­al.
