Davis tra­veled ex­tens­ive­ly, liv­ing at dif­fer­ent times in Mar­cel­lus, New York; Vicks­burg, Mis­sis­sip­pi; Bal­ti­more, Ma­ry­land; Cin­cin­na­ti, Ohio; and Burr Oak and Find­ley, Mi­chi­gan. He taught voice and in­stru­ment­al class­es, had charge of choirs in var­i­ous plac­es, and sang ma­ny solos. He ne­ver mar­ried. Davis’ first pub­lished com­position ap­peared in Waverly Magazine; his other works in­clude:
