Son of or­gan­ist Georg Hein­rich Dretz­el, Kor­ne­li­us be­came or­gan­ist at the Nürn­berg Frau­en­kirche at age 14, at St. Äg­y­dien (1719), St. Lo­renz (1743), and St. Se­bald’s, where he stayed the rest of his life. He pub­lished a book of chor­ales in 1731, con­tain­ing 907 tunes.
