Eastburn’s fa­ther was a New York book­sell­er, and his bro­ther the bi­shop of Mass­a­chu­setts. The fam­i­ly moved to New York in 1803, and James was ed­u­cat­ed at Co­lum­bia Coll­ege, grad­u­ating in 1816. Tak­ing Ho­ly Or­ders in 1818, he be­came rec­tor at Ac­co­mac, Vir­gin­ia, where his “abund­ant and suc­cess­ful” la­bors were cut short by an ear­ly death. East­burn’s works in­clude:
