Everett orig­in­al­ly planned to be a do­ctor, but went in­to mu­sic in­stead. He stu­died in Bos­ton, Mass­a­chu­setts, and Leip­zig, Ger­ma­ny. He wrote ma­ny Gos­pel songs, and ed­it­ed The Scep­tre (New York: Big­low & Main). His bro­thers were com­pos­ers Ben­ja­min and Leonard Ev­er­ett.
