Born: May 23, 1810, Cam­bridge, Mass­a­chu­setts.

Died: Ju­ly 19, 1850, in a shipwreck near Fire Island, New York.

Around age 25, Fuller began teaching at Bronson Alcott’s school. Two years later, she be­came the principal teach­er at the Green Street School in Providence, Rhode Island. She moved to near Bos­ton, Mass­a­chu­setts, in 1839, and lived there five years. In 1840, she founded The Dial magazine, pub­lishing po­et­ry and philosophical ar­ti­cles. From 1844 to 1846, she lived in New York, and con­trib­ut­ed literary criticism to Horace Greeley’s The Tribune. She toured Eng­land, France and Italy in 1846, meeting and mar­ried Marchese Giovanni Ossoli. She, her hus­band and child died when their ship was wrecked on their way to Amer­i­ca.
