Died: Sep­tem­ber 28, 1891, Chicago, Illinois.

Ganse’s family moved to New York Ci­ty in 1825. He grad­u­at­ed from Co­lum­bia Coll­ege in 1839, stu­died the­ol­o­gy at New Bruns­wick (Reformed Dutch) Sem­in­a­ry, New Jer­sey, and was or­dained in 1843. From 1843-1856 he was a Re­formed Dutch pas­tor in Free­hold, New Jer­sey. From 1856-1866 he pas­tored at the North­west Re­formed Dutch Church in New York. On Jan­u­ary 1, 1876, he be­came pas­tor of the First Pres­by­ter­i­an Church in St. Louis. Up­on the or­gan­iz­a­tion of the Pres­by­ter­i­an Board of Aid for Coll­eges and Acad­e­mies in 1883, Ganse was elect­ed its sec­re­ta­ry, and moved to Chi­ca­go, Il­li­nois, to per­form those du­ties.
