Born: 1794, Bos­ton, Mass­a­chu­setts.

Daughter of Sam­u­el How­ard, Car­o­line mar­ried Sam­u­el Gil­man in 1819. After her hus­band’s death, she lived for a while in Cam­bridge, Mass­a­chu­setts, then in Ti­ver­ton, Long Is­land, New York. She wrote sev­er­al tales, ball­ads, and po­ems.
