Green­wood stu­died un­der Stop­forth, or­gan­ist of Hal­i­fax par­ish church, and be­came or­gan­ist at Keigh­ley at age 16, and at Leeds par­ish church in 1821. After al­most six years at Leeds, he vi­sit­ed France, Lon­don and Amer­i­ca, re­main­ing in each count­ry about two years. He event­u­al­ly set­tled in Hal­i­fax, and served as or­gan­ist at the South Pa­rade Meth­od­ist Church un­til 1835. His works in­clude:
