Ireland attended the Royal College of Music (RCM), studying under Charles Stanford. He began playing the organ at Holy Trinity Church in Sloane Street around 1896, and at St. Luke’s Church, Chelsea, in 1904. He lived in Chelsea, and taught composition at the RCM. He had large number of compositions, including piano solos, string sonatas, chamber ensembles, vocal and choral pieces, and orchestral works.
