Son of W. F. D. Jervois (lat­er a lieu­ten­ant gen­er­al), Wil­liam was ed­u­cat­ed at Rug­by and at Trin­i­ty Coll­ege, Ox­ford (BA 1876, MA 1878), and was or­dained D. 1878, P. 1879. He be­came Vic­ar of St. Ma­ry Mag­da­lene, Mun­ster Square, Lon­don, in 1896. Un­til his death, he was a mem­ber of the com­mit­tee that com­piled The Eng­lish Hymn­al of 1906.
