King grad­u­at­ed from Queen’s Coll­ege, Cam­bridge, and was or­dained in 1814. His first post was ev­i­dent­ly as Cur­ate of Well­ing­ton with Ey­ton, Shrop­shire; he be­came Per­pe­tu­al Cur­ate of Christ Church, Hull, in 1822. He lat­er served as Cur­ate to Mr. J.
