Jemima was the daugh­ter of Thom­as Thomp­son, a found­er of the Brit­ish and For­eign Sail­ors’ So­ci­ety. She be­gan writ­ing ear­ly, be­ing first pub­lished in the Ju­ven­ile Mag­a­zine when she was 13. She mar­ried Con­gre­ga­tion­al min­is­ter Sam­u­el Luke when she was 20 years old. From 1841 to 1845, she ed­it­ed The Mis­sion­ary Re­pos­i­to­ry. Her works in­clude:
