Died: No­vem­ber 1, 1947, Whea­ton, Il­li­nois.

Raised a Ro­man Ca­tho­lic, Lud­gate joined the Sal­va­tion Army, served in Ca­na­da, New Jer­sey, New York, and else­where, and rose to the rank of bri­ga­dier. He ev­i­dent­ly served as a chap­lain in World War I, and as spir­it­u­al ad­vis­er to Whea­ton Mil­i­ta­ry Coll­ege.
