Died: January 4, 1654, Jena, Germany.

Son of farm­er Jo­hann Gross (La­tin­ized to Ma­jor), Jo­hann was or­dained as di­a­co­nus at Wei­mar, and in 1605 be­came pas­tor and su­per­in­ten­dent at Je­na. In 1611, he was ap­point­ed pro­fess­or at Je­na (DD July 1612).
