Newell en­tered Wor­ces­ter Coll­ege, Ox­ford, as an ex­hi­bi­tion­er in 1871 (BA 1876, MA 1878). He was or­dained a dea­con in 1890, and priest the next year. As of 1900, he was Rec­tor of Neen Sol­lars, Sal­op, Eng­land.
