Newman be­came a dea­con in 1879, and a priest the next year. He served as as­sist­ant Cur­ate at Eg­lo­shayle (1879-83), St. Is­sey (1883-5); Saw­bridg­eworth (1885-88); St. Glu­vi­as (1888-9); Vi­car of St. George’s, Tru­ro (1889-1909); Chap­lain of the Roy­al Corn­wall In­firm­a­ry in Tru­ro (1889-1909); and Li­censed Preach­er in the Di­o­cese of Tru­ro (1909-15). He re­tired in Wor­ces­ter.
