Newman became a deacon in 1879, and a priest the next year. He served as assistant Curate at Egloshayle (1879-83), St. Issey (1883-5); Sawbridgeworth (1885-88); St. Gluvias (1888-9); Vicar of St. George’s, Truro (1889-1909); Chaplain of the Royal Cornwall Infirmary in Truro (1889-1909); and Licensed Preacher in the Diocese of Truro (1909-15). He retired in Worcester.
