Born: De­cem­ber 24, 1865, Rich­mond, York­shire, Eng­land.

Son of Con­gre­ga­tion­al min­is­ter Hen­ry Oak­ley, Eb­e­ne­zer stu­died arts at Glas­gow Un­i­ver­si­ty, the­ol­o­gy at Aire­dale Coll­ege, Brad­ford, and took his MA at the Un­i­ver­si­ty of All­a­ha­bad, In­dia. As of 1906, he was was serv­ing the Lon­don Miss­ion­a­ry So­ci­e­ty at Al­mo­ra, in north­ern In­dia, and was Prin­ci­pal of the Ram­say Coll­ege there.
