Educated at the University of Edinburgh (MB and CM, 1884), Palmer was ordained a deacon in 1889, and priest in 1890. He served as Assistant Curate at St. Saviour’s, Leeds (1889-93); missionary in Zanzibar (1893-1902); Assistant Curate at St. John’s, Clevedon (1902-4); Vicar of Kirton-in-Holland (1904-16); R. D. of Holland W. (1910-16); Canon of Zanzibar (1928); and Chaplain to the Bishop of Zanzibar (1926).
