Died: December 18, 1878, Wien (Vienna), Austria.

A com­pos­er, song­writ­er, and teach­er, Proch first stu­died for a law ca­reer, but event­u­al­ly took up the vi­o­lin, first per­form­ing in pub­lic in 1834 in Vi­en­na. In 1837, he was ap­point­ed Ka­pell­meist­er at Vi­en­na’s Jo­sef­stadt the­a­ter, at the court op­e­ra in 1840, and at the Com­ic Op­e­ra in 1874. Among his songs is the well known “Das Alp­en­horn.” He al­so wrote the three-act com­ic op­e­ra Ring und Maske.
