Reissiger at­tend­ed the Thom­as­schule in Leip­zig, Ger­ma­ny, and stu­died mu­sic un­der Schicht, Sal­i­eri (1821), and Win­ter (1822). He al­so stu­died the­ol­o­gy at the Un­i­ver­si­ty of Leip­zig. In 1824, his first op­era, Di­done ab­ban­do­na­ta, opened in Dres­den. He con­tinu­ed to stu­dy music in France and It­a­ly, then moved to Ber­lin in 1825. In his life­time, he wrote over 60 songs, 9 op­er­as, 1 or­a­tor­io, 9 La­tin mass­es, and 4 Ger­man mass­es.
