A pi­a­nist and com­pos­er, Ri­chards was ed­u­cat­ed at the Roy­al Acad­e­my of Mu­sic in Lon­don, where he lat­er taught. He was great­ly in­ter­est­ed in Welsh mu­sic and in the Eis­tedd­fod ga­ther­ings. He is per­haps best re­mem­bered for his 1862 song God Bless the Prince of Wales.
