In 1702, Schmolck be­came pas­tor of Schweid­nitz, Si­le­sia, one of the three Frie­dens­kirch­en (Pro­testant church­es) in Ca­tho­lic Si­le­sia. He be­came much in­volved in po­lem­ic strug­gles with the Ca­tho­lic Ge­gen­re­for­ma­tion (count­er-re­for­ma­tion). In the last years of his life he be­came blind and par­a­lyzed.
