Eldest son of Rev. R. J. Stat­ham, Wil­liam was ed­u­cat­ed at Marl­bor­ough and Un­i­ver­si­ty Coll­ege, Dur­ham (BA 1856, DMus 1876). Or­dained in 1858, he served as Cur­ate of Tun­stall and Vi­car of Ell­es­mere-port (1866-1898). He was al­so the Or­gan­iz­ing Choir­mas­ter of Frod­sham Dean­er­ies Chor­al As­so­ci­a­tion (1869-1879). He com­posed an or­a­tor­io, church serv­ic­es, and songs.
