Stein grew up in Port Glas­gow on the west coast of Scot­land. He spent five years as or­gan­ist and choir­mas­ter at St. Ma­ry’s Epis­co­pal Church in Port Glas­gow, and led the praise band at Brox­burn Bap­tist Church for over 10 years.
