Emily was the daugh­ter of Sam­u­el Tay­lor or New Buck­en­ham, Nor­folk, niece of hymn­ist John Tay­lor of Nor­wich, and great-grand­daugh­ter of He­bra­ist Dr. John Tay­lor. She wrote num­er­ous child­ren’s stor­ies, main­ly his­tor­ic­al, and var­i­ous works of in­struct­ion and de­scrip­tive na­tur­al his­to­ry, and con­trib­ut­ed to Mag­net Stor­ies (1860, etc.) and Rain­bow Stor­ies (1870, etc.).
