A print­er by trade, Ter­ry served as a Sun­day school su­per­in­tend­ent for three de­cades in Dews­bu­ry, York­shire, as se­cre­ta­ry of the Dews­bu­ry Sun­day School Un­ion, and on the Na­tion­al Sun­day School Un­ion council. Af­ter re­tir­ing, he was se­cre­ta­ry of Trin­i­ty Church in Pres­tatyn for two more de­cades, and served on the Sun­day schools com­mit­tee of the Meth­od­ist New Co­nnex­ion (1877-99), and as trea­sur­er of the Young Peo­ple’s and Tem­per­ance De­part­ment of the Meth­od­ist New Con­nex­ion and the Unit­ed Meth­od­ist Church, un­til 1919.
