Born: Cir­ca Feb­ru­a­ry 1880, Bul­well (a sub­urb of Not­tin­gham), Not­ting­ham­shire, Eng­land.

Though still in Not­ting­ham­shire as of 1891, Al­fred em­i­grat­ed to Amer­i­ca as a child. He grad­u­at­ed from North­west­ern Un­i­ver­si­ty, and was wide­ly known as the com­pos­er of the com­ic opera The Sul­tan of Su­lu. In 1911, he was choir­mas­ter and or­gan­ist at the Church of Our Sav­iour, Chi­ca­go, Il­li­nois. He was still in Chi­ca­go as of 1930.
