Born: Circa February 1880, Bulwell (a suburb of Nottingham), Nottinghamshire, England.
Though still in Nottinghamshire as of 1891, Alfred emigrated to America as a child. He graduated from Northwestern University, and was widely known as the composer of the comic opera The Sultan of Sulu. In 1911, he was choirmaster and organist at the Church of Our Saviour, Chicago, Illinois. He was still in Chicago as of 1930.
