According to John Julian, the two hymns shown below, by one J. Young, appeared in the American Baptist Psalmist of 1843. In The Evangelical Hymnal (Harrisburg, Pennsylvania: The Evangelical Publishing House, 1921), the author of “O for a Shout of Joy” is also shown as J. Young, which the index expands to “Rev. Jacob Young (1829-1895).” If correct, Young was only 14 years old when the Psalmist was published.
