Pictures Needed

We’re seeking pictures of hymn­ists, trans­lat­ors, com­pos­ers & ar­rang­ers to il­lus­trate this site. If you can scan an im­age from the list be­low—or loan it to us so we can scan it—it would be a great bless­ing. (“Scan­ning” is the pro­cess of stor­ing a pic­ture elec­tron­ic­al­ly so a com­put­er can dis­play it.) If you scan a pic­ture, we can han­dle TIFF, BMP, JPG, GIF, PCX, FPX, PNG, ACC, & MIX for­mats.

• For photos, we pre­fer a head-and-should­ers por­trait in TIFF or BMP for­mat. Please don’t re­size or crop the im­age.
• If scan­ning a mu­sic­al score, we pre­fer GIF for­mat at 300 or 600 DPI.
• After you scan the im­age, at­tach the file to an e-mail, en­sure the “at­tach­ment type” is set to “MIME” (usu­al­ly this is the de­fault) and that’s all there is to it! Note: Please send just the raw im­age file (that is, don’t em­bed it in a PDF or word pro­cess­ing do­cu­ment).

If you send a pic­ture by “snail mail,” please send orig­in­als (prints, books, pub­li­ca­tions, etc.). Pho­to­co­pies don’t scan well. We’ll be hap­py to re­turn your orig­in­als. Click here to re­quest a mail­ing ad­dress.

If you have a bet­ter qual­i­ty im­age of some­one al­rea­dy pic­tured in the Cy­ber Hymn­al, please let us know that, too.

About Co­py­rights: We can post co­py­right­ed im­ag­es on­ly if the co­py­right hold­er gives written permission. Pho­to­graphs of in­di­vid­u­als who died be­fore 1920 are usu­al­ly not a prob­lem, since any co­py­right on the pho­to would have ex­pired un­der U.S. law. More re­cent pho­tos, and etch­ings, how­ev­er, are ano­ther sto­ry, since we can’t ea­si­ly tell their age; if you send co­pies of these, please in­clude a state­ment that they’re in the pub­lic do­main.
